Crayons and ice-cream.

July 28, 2008

Every 5 minutes or so, the teacher would go the school PA system and announce this…

“LAST CALL! Super cheap! Come get your crayons form ridiculously low prices! Come come…only while stocks last.”

And every time she went on air, we would all steal cynical looks at each other, making funny eyebrow movements and all… As if talking silently among us. “What the hell? what the fuck? How to sell?..Still left a whole truck!?” Apparently the crazy teacher ordered a whole truck worth of crayons, water colors and colored pencils to be sold to exactly 1098 primary school students of the school.

48-Sticks Crayon Set = RM9.80
12-Sticks Crayon Set = RM3.80
24-Bottles Water Color Set = Rm 7.80
12-Bottles Water Color Set = Rm 6.80
48-Colored Pencils = RM 12.70
8-Colored Pencils = RM 3.80

And if anybody were to purchase over RM3.50, they would get a free parking rebate for the entire day. And if anybody were to ask for a discount, no matter how big or small, we would have to grant it.

Weird thing is, the stuffs were already being sold at cost price - no profit. On top of that, we gave discounts and free parking. And since it was a charity event, all proceeds (if any) will go to them. I was kept busy the whole time, packing and issuing parking receipt and then suddenly the ice-cream van came.

As it got closer and closer, it got louder and louder. Until it was unbearable anymore, it woke me up. J had called…

Rupa-rupanya, it was just a dream.

Fofesional

July 17, 2008

Ini best punya post.

Just only got my hair cut - at a shop next door. Have been passing through this shop for many years but never really occurred to me to actually walk in and support them. I always thought their name is special, their flooring is special, woody-woody warm-warm feelings and all. Becoz beginning tomorrow and for the next few days, will be at KL kai-kai and sebagainya. Therefore, had to plan my day super efficiently as to squeeze as many errands as possible into my last few hours. So this shop being near and on-the-way, got to cut my hair la. RM22.

Anyway, my theory is very simple. Any normal man, those without something-wrong one, won’t become a barber. Either must be gay, pondan or transvestite OR… Indian. But not to say Indian is something wrong. But I was generalizing. Coz I’m chinese ma… so I was speaking from the chinese-race point of view. Not to say I’m racist or what, but just being stereotypical, dengan izin. Just like how chinese-owned doggies will bark and all Indians. And how Indian dogs in Bengalulu will bark at chinese ladies. This piece of info I got from my sis - who just got back from that little town in India.

So, chinese + barber = something wrong. Indian + barber = normal. Anyone dare challenge this theory, find me a proof. Show me if your argument is stronger than mine. Just look at how many Indian barbers got misai? In fact allmost all. And they all look so macho and fierce. Ask yourself, given the choice, which barber would you rather fight? Gayish chinese or the mister-potato-looking Indian barbers. Come come gay anytime.

Anyway, back to the barbershop. Haizz… Don’t like to go new shops coz I don’t want to be asked a very hard question. “Fofesional, see-near or stolen?” To which I always answer.. “errr…” while silently, trying very hard in convincing myself inside that my head/hairstyle doesn’t need a fofesional nor a see-near. Stolen enough - cut short-short all around, slopes at the side. But somehow, the extreme howlianess, kiasuness and aibiness inside of me, always end myself with the most expensive option.

But then today hor, I wasn’t asked. So no need answer.

So came this frail looking guy. Didn’t get his name nor did he introduced himself. So let’s call him Duck Liver, in short, DL. DL and me really no feel. And DL himself really no skill. In the short session we had together, he managed to drop the scissors, drop the comb and tangled my leg with the hair dryer cord. I kid you not.

NIKEiD, Shanghai.

The house needs to be fitted with 30 fluorescent lamps, 2 spotlights, 5 fans & 3 air-conditioners. And these are just the super basic stuff. The rest of the interior is J’s problem…

NIKEiD Shanghai
NIKEiD Studio, Shimao, Shanghai.

Sometime not so long ago, I went visit my bro at his village in China. It was my first visit - even though he had been working there for 2 years. I was there for 10 days. And everyday, I never fail to see Chinese people piss by the roadside. According to my bro, I’d better be burning 88 joss sticks to the Heavenly Gods if a day goes by without me seeing someone do it. Lucky for me, for the full 10 days, I sufficiently blessed.

Wow, hundreds of shoes to kick your potential customers away.

Anyway, I did go to many places, did a lot of shopping, paid for some sight-seeing and ate far too many things. The most memorable experience to me however, was the trip to the NIKEiD store. Situated in the town centre around People’s Square. It was where I made my first purchase in Shanghai. Some RMB1400 worth… ataupun kira-kira Ringgit Malaysia Tujuh Ratus +/-.

6 exclusive designs. They all look so good in white.

The concept is like this… For a slight premium, you can pick any Nike’s products and have the in-house staff personalize it for you. You have the full control. You choose the material, color and even the design name. This service however, it not entirely new. It was already available online for Nike fans in Europe and the US. But you still have to visit a “physical” studio to get exclusive access to NIKEid-Studio-only designs - even in the EU/US.

Monitor very big. My sized-12 shoe look small

All these material and colors to confuse you.

I spent a good hour there designing my sneaker. If all goes well, I should be receiving them in the mail in 1-2 weeks. My revolutionary shoe… inspired by the best of the worlds. The colors of the rainbow, the cheerfulness of the Ronald McDonald and of course, the left-and-right-not-same-color of your favorite pair of cheap bowling shoes.

Here’s a preview. Nice or not?

Linksys WMP54G

… I think it’s working now.

Have been unable to blog from home for past 2 months because of a faulty wireless card. Was just able to do some light surfing. Managed to fix it this morning after making 2 trips to my favorite retailer. Had to get the faulty “new” card exchanged.
