The Andaman, Langkawi.

May 8, 2008

Why never update blog? Blog die already? Why you cannot do things past 6 months? Boringlor your blog…

Drinks & towels to welcome us at The Adaman.

Over the labor day weekend, we spent 2 nights at The Andaman at Datai Bay – the most ulu-est possible north-western tip of Langkawi. So ulu, Maxis thinks I’m was in Thailand most of the time.

SMS: Sawadeekap…to enjoy discounts on roaming, press ###….etc..etc..

4 levels of rainforest villas

Traveling in/out of the resort takes about 45 minutes in our little rented RM80/day Wira, 35 minutes if it’s J on the wheels. The crazy gal never learn how to brake.

The Datai Bay - view from room.

Driving on island was very easy and straight forward. The roads were wide, clear and there were plenty of road signs to all the touristsy places. We got driving map from the rent-a-car and it came with piece of advise.

Cik, nak belok kiri-kanan, pasang signal. Masa straight, jangan speed ya, kadang-kadang ada lembu, ada kambing.

The Andaman's beach cafe.

Straight from the airport, we went have lunch at warong Siti Fatimah supposedly famed for her wide variety of over 70 Malay dishes. Food was OK, wasn’t cheap but the place was filled with hundreds of tourists. Needed to beratur.

Breakfast at The Loaf, Tun Mahathir's bakery.

Apparently… to eat at Tun’s place, it costs about RM25 per person for a set meal but only RM5 to visit his gallery. Galleria Perdana boasted over 7000 gifts received during his days. We paid to see items such as lukisan, cawan, cawan, lukisan, pedang, pedang and cawan. Yeah!! very ultra the interesting.

The 4 Seasons at Tanjung Rhu.

Awana at Porto Malai, leaving on a yacht.

The highlight of the trip is probably the Sunset cruise. Researched, planned and reserved by J. You pay a certain amount of money to have yourself sailed to the middle of the sea, dropped down into a salt-water jacuzzi, served BBQ dinner and watch the sunset as your sail back for port.

Clear blue sky - perfect weather.

The pinnacle of the Sunset Cruise. The sunset!

Some cheesy russian chicken main course.

The lowlight of the trip however, is probably when our car got punctured – about 1 hour away from hotel. But nothing a two-person team can’t handle. We stopped outside a budget hotel, had it replaced before the owner noticed us. Then we were off to the most rewarding dinner of the trip…

Grilled fish & nasi goreng at the Sun Village.

It’s sad we had to give the cable car and eagle feeding a miss. Will definitely do them next time.

Till then, so long… the land of cheap booze.
